How To Go About Choosing A Cat Breed That Suits You
Domestic cats make great pets for most homes because they are very easy to care for and generally bond easily with humans. Most of the societies and cultures around the world have made it a practice to adopt cats into their family structures. However, domestic cats do vary quite a bit in their physical design and personalities from one breed to the next. Choosing a cat breed that suits you and your family is not a task that should be taken lightly. Nor should choosing a cat breed that suits you seem like a difficult task.
The first consideration when choosing a cat breed is the size of your living area. You may always think of cats as being leisurely lounge lizards, but many breeds spend as much time playing as lounging. Playful cat breeds need plenty of room to play. Also, the larger the play area and the more there is to do, such as another cat to interact with, the less likely the cat is to go mad if it doesn’t see you much for a few days.
That leads to the second consideration when choosing a cat breed. You need to think about how much time your family is going to be able to spend with the cat. If your new little friend doesn’t at least get a couple of gentle touches and a cuddle every other day, it will go mad. Although how much attention is necessary has a lot to do with the breed. The other part of the time consideration is that some cats require more grooming maintenance such as bathing and brushing. A busy family should get a cat with short fur.
The third consideration when choosing a cat breed is allergies to cats. These allergies are not uncommon, but there is much variance in the degree in which they manifest themselves. Someone with a very heavy cat allergy probably should not own a cat. Someone with a light allergy that results in a few sneezes or coughs a day can have a cat, but should be careful in choosing a cat breed that will minimize allergen exposure. For example, you will want to choose a cat breed that has short fur and rarely sheds its fur to reduce your exposure.
The fourth, and probably most often forgotten, consideration when choosing a cat breed is the cost of taking care of that breed. Some breeds are hardier than others. Many breeds have common ailments, such as deafness or fur balls, that may get costly in veterinarian visits. Also, a cat that weighs half as much and has a lazy temperament will eat less than half as much as the cat that weighs twice as much and is packed full of energy.
The fifth, and final, consideration when choosing a cat breed is how the personality of the kitty matches up with the other personalities of your family. Cats come in different temperaments. There are lap, child-friendly, indoors, independent hunter, and jealous, one-person cats.

@FunTrollin dude, whats up with you? cats and dogs are both awesome creatures, and both deserve respect.

anyone notice mostly all siemise cats have black on there face
Okay now I now my cat is definetly a Bombay, thanks;)
i bet all these people watching want to buy a cat every view
what are kittys at 0:21 ?
Siamese cats FTW !! :)
I think you mean front claws. Even if so, de-clawing a cat is barbaric and cruel! The only way to do it is by removing the digit to at least the first knuckle. That is like someone having your fingertips to the first joint removed against your will because they don’t like you biting your nails!
british cats are amazing
Scottish folds are awsome
I love all cats, especially calicoes and torties. I have 2 cats. 1 6 year girl calico American Short Hair named Molly & an 9 month old boy ocicat, American short-hair mixed kitten named Frankie. Lets face it, cats are my favorite animals. If you met mine, you’d know that cats are the best even though dogs are close.

no offence but what were u thinking the devon rex is the best by a mile. They look kinda F***ed but they have a great personality!! I have one…….
@gonicito just take him to the vet and have his front paws taken off. only the front ones. but scratching pans are good to
It depends on the cats behavior, if it’s calm(it probably won’t be on the first day…) you can give it some time, but either way, get a scratching post, and make sure if the cat oes scratch the furniture, spray it with water, but don’t yell at it.
Hello, I’m trying to buy a cat reallly soon, but i’m worried that it will scratch up my furniture, any advice on that?
singapuras aren”t anywhere… good vid tho, i also think scottish folds are cool…
Yah, they are an amazing breed, but it’s in my opinion.
i think scottish folds should of got number 1
cool.

I just love cats. If it weren’t for this book I wouldn’t of found any of our kittens’ breeds. This lists down probably every breed of cat there is, except wild and extinct cats that is. I would say this is the best cat encyclopedia I’ve read. I would recomend this book to any cat breeder out there.

What makes this book useful is the plethora of information it gives on cats as well as the way it is organized. The encyclopedia is quite thorough in detailing not only the various subjects of cats, but types of cats and other areas concerning care and behavior.
There are many topics covered. One of the first main sections focuses on what a person should look for and know ahead of time before choosing a cat for adoption. It gives some tips on what to look for in a healthy cat, and how to care for a sick cat, as well as how to maintain a healthy lifestyle for your pet. This section is followed by advice on how to create the right environment for your cat: how you can help your cat “settle” into its new home, what to do if it does not adjust well, access to litter boxes, toys for cats, etc. This is followed by a section on how to care for cats home and away. If you happen to be leaving town for a time, there are some helpful bits of advice on how to make it less stressful on your feline friends. Explored in this section are such things on dangers to cats within the home and outside and ideas about access to the outside, such as how often you should let your cat out. There is also a section on nutrition and feeding, which goes over how much and what you should feed your cat based on its age or weight. Perhaps the biggest section is the one which goes over the many types of cats–these are broken into shorthair and longhair. There are many pictures of the various types, as well as information on their personalities and temperaments. The final section is about sickness and diseases, from minor to serious, and how to go about treating each one.
What I found most helpful about the book is the broad range of topics about cats. You can think of a common question about your cat, and it is probably answered in this book. There are tons of pictures of cats and their many predicaments included in the book, but this isn’t just a “pretty” encyclopedia meant to grab you with its big, cute pictures. There is a ton of information for someone who has never had a cat, and information for someone who has grown up with cats all their life. The cat novice and the cat veteran will probably agree this is an excellent book! A must for any cat lover!

This beautiful reference book on cat care and the world’s cat breeds makes a lovely coffee table book. It has over 700 photos of cats. It’s printed on semi-glossy, flexible and thick paperstock.
The book is separated into two parts. Part One is “Caring for your Cat” and it starts with history of the cat. Then it goes on to many topics that any cat owner should be aware of. A few of the topics covered in part one are: Creating the right enviroment, selecting the right cat, care at home & away, nutrition & feeding, grooming, behavior, health and injuries & ailments of cats.
In part two, “The Breeds”, there’s a complete pictorial encyclopedia of all the main cat breeds. Each breed and the breed’s many color combinations are fully described. It also has information on any important characteristics, such as temperment, grooming needs and average sizes. Non-pedigreed cats are also covered on a limited basis.
This full color, British authored book would make a great guidebook for any new cat owner. It would also make a lovely gift for a cat lover.

This cats, cat breeds and cat care, has every breed imagineable in it. We now know what kinds of cat’s we like and how to take care of them. Some have special needs. We now know what to expect about the cat’s personality and if they are good around kids or not. Some do not take kindly to children. We wanted to find out about all the different breeds of cats, and we did!! Now we just need to narrow down to the one’s we like the most, to just one cat! Not going to be easy! This is a fun book, just looking and discussing the cats and breeds with my children was and is fun. Good quality time together! We spent hours of fun just on this one book.
Except for the Sphynx breeds and Peterbald (all hairless cats), all cats shed. You might want a cat without undercoat, like a Siamese, shorthaired Oriental, Burmese, or Tonkinese. Or, you may want a cat that has undercoat and no guard hairs or awn coat like a Cornish Rex or Devon Rex. These may shed enough less to be more tolerable to you.
Hopes this helps!
Russian blues are somewhat shedders, but not as much as most cats, best answer pls!
when I was little, my friend had a siamese that barely shed at all…
THE REX CATS HAVE CURLY FUR AND THIS DOESN’T SHED AS MUCH AS NORMAL STRAIGHT HAIRED CATS..
shorthaired rexs.. devon rex .. cornish rex.
or the long haired variety..
selkirk rex
or artic curl.
The cat that sheds the least will be the one that’s groomed the most. So get a cat of any breed – or no particular breed – and groom it regularly. Shorthaired cats should be brushed at least once a week with a slicker brush or Zoom Groom. Longhaired cats shouldn’t be brushed – they should be combed – and at least every other day to prevent matting.
