Devon Rex Cat Breed

Cat insurance for a Devon Rex is important to have and pet owners should really consider getting it. With cat insurance it helps out with those expensive vet bills thus allowing you to sleep easier at night and stress-free.

The Devon Rex has been said to be found in Devonshire, England where the father was a curly-coated feral and the mother was a straight-coated calico. In 1960, Beryl Cox, a cat breeder,  found a litter of kittens near an abandoned tin mine. One of these kittens, named Kirlee, took after the father where she has the short and curly coat. There are some breeders who have thought that the mom and father must have been related to a certain extent because with the curly coat, it is a recessive gene. With it being a recessive gene, it should be present in both parents. It wasn’t until 1968 where the Devon Rex appeared in the United States. The American Cat Fancier Association was the first to accept the Devon in  1972, followed by The International Cat Association in 1979 and finally the Cat Fanciers’ Association in 1983.

Cat owners are a fan of the Devon Rex breed because there is minimal grooming involved. Their coat is very short and curly that there is less likely shed. You will notice that there is a ripple effect when you pet the cat’s coat. Just petting a Devon Rex is all the grooming that they need and they enjoy that more than using a brush or comb.  It’s body has is hard and muscular. The eyes are normally large and wide set. The tail is long, fine and tapering and is covered with short fur. The Devon Rex comes in all different colors and pattern, this includes the Himalayan pattern.

Devon Rexes are considered to be a very curious cat and at times be mischievous. They are known to hiding if random places like the top of the closet or even in the laundry basket. They enjoy being involved in whatever you do. Usually they choose one person to devote majority of their love to and when it comes time to relaxing, they are going to snuggle right up on your lap.

Pet insurance is essentially like any other insurance where you pay for the vet bill up front and your pet insurance company will reimburse. With some pet insurance companies this can days or even months. Pet insurance with Trupanion, the payback period within 7 days. Also when it comes to claims, Trupanion does not have a limit on claims. As long as you are approved you are covered.

Why not get one of the many Encyclopaedias of cats out from your local library or even buy one? There are hundreds of different breeds and a person could easily write pages and pages on them if they knew them well!

A good starting point is A for Abyssinians: A medium sized cat, that’s very loving, loyal, intelligent and active. They come in a total of 28 different colours although only usual/ruddy/tawny, sorrel/cinnamon, blue and fawn are fully recognized world wide with chocolate and lilac about to gain that status in most places. They all have “ticked” coats, that is where each hair has at least 2-4 bands of colour a little like the coat of a wild rabbit. They are one of the oldest recognized breeds out there, and look a lot like the cats of Ancient Egypt.
