Is there a cheap, grain free dog food?

I rescued a very thin dog who is not doing well on our current dog food. I am looking for an economical grain-free dog food OR a rescue near Bristow, OK who can take in a wolfdog. So far, I’ve had NO luck.

And I have contacted wolfdog rescues, most are full or not even up and running anymore. Please help, this dog needs help!

And feel free to contact me if you can provide a good home for her.

I am feeding my malamute Blue Buffalo Wilderness Salmon. Here where I live it is $57 after tax for a 24lb bag, a bit pricey but its worth it. Corn and gluten free. Actaully, the dog will eat less because the body doesn’t need as much food when it is good food and high in protein, when you feed a dog the cheaper food filled with corn they will eat more. This is what my vet explained to me. Try putting an ad in your local newspaper.

I think taste of the wild is about the cheapest grain free dog food out there and its still expensive!

You may look into feeding a raw diet as well. Good luck!

Putting the word CHEAP in your question is sure to get you flamed. Cheap is usually POOR QUALITY.

If you want economincal way to feed him while you have him, find your local abbatoir (slaughter house) and get tongue, heart, liver, anything they will give you inexpensively. It should cost no more than 20 cents/pound that way. and you crock pot it and towards the end, add rice. When you turn off the pot, if there’s still a lot of liquid, put in some oatmeal. Rice and oatmeal are good grains for dogs (unlike corn) and this is a simple way to feed the dog. You feed him about 1% of his body weight at each of 2 meals per day or 1% for breakfast, and kibble for supper. I feed homemade dogfood in the monrning only, so the other nutrients they get from the kibble I feed for supper.

I prefer Diamond Naturals. They have several with rice. The best foods are expensive.-!-

costco they now have a fish and potato that is packaged by diamond and has the same address of taste of the wild. It is called Nature’s Domain http://www.naturesdomainpetfood.com/about-natures-domain

Taste of the Wild hands down will be the cheapest grain free food out there.
I use it and switched from DIAMOND NATURALS…Which is a Grain Inclusive food.
On diamond naturals I was feeding 12cups plus one full can of food a day to keep weight on my Great Dane, When I switched I was using only 6cups of the TOTW HP.
I pay $38 for 30lb bag..But the usual price is around $38-$42.99 ..sometimes more or less depending o your area.

I also seen smaller poop because I was feeding more, More consistent firm poop, he over all smelled better, looked healthier, more active, kept a steadier weight, his coat looks great as well! I know I’m missing something lol..

& There is nothing wrong with cheap & grain free food in the same sentence to the other poster, We all want a deal when we look for anything – Who WANTS to pay $70 per bag of wellness! No one does but we do it because we love our animals AND we CAN afford it. For those of us who can’t, like my family Taste of the wild is the next best thing and it fits our Budget.

& Nedra E – It is not normally recommended that you feed RAW & Grain Inclusive Kibble…They digest at different rates & can be VERY upsetting for some dogs stomach so be careful for anyone following this advice. Not neccesarily bad advice of course, it has worked for you! But some it may not and need to know the facts.

The least expensive one i know is Nature’s Domain at Costco. It is the grain free version of their food & around $28 for 40lb bag. It isn’t available at all Costcos yet so you have to check at individual stores if they have it yet.

Iams is not grain-free, but has a much smaller grain content than other brands. It actually seems more expensive, but when you look at the portion size it is pretty cheap. I switched my dog to it when he was having digestion problems and he is doing much better on the Iams. You can get it at basically any pet store!

As for a rescue, try PAL or PAWS in Tulsa. They both take a wide variety of dogs. (I am from Tulsa) I actually got my dog from a smaller rescue called Zoe’s in Claremore, you might try them as well. Good luck, and thanks for trying to give that dog a second chance!

” Is there a cheap, grain free dog food? ”

Yes. Breast of lamb is cheap. Chicken wings are cheap. Chickens carcasses are free. Turkeys heads, if ye can access them, are great too. All excellent grub. Just bung it down, outside, and let the Dog get to work on it.

Fresh and raw, obviously. 100% grain free.

I have found Diamond Naturals. It is has no wheat, no corn and no soy. I pay $17 for a 20lb bag. I get the Lamb and Rice formula.
