Cymric Cat Breeds

Cat insurance with a Cymric is makes sense. As you know, Cymrics are great jumpers so they might leap from one part of the room to another. In doing so, they might injure themselves like breaking their little paw. This is where cat insurance comes in play. Cat insurance can help you with these vet bills that come up.

It is said that the Cymric has originated in The Isle, which is in between England and Ireland where it was brought by the Spanish settlers. It has been believed by some, that the Manx was mixed in with these cats as you can given some of the similar traits. Although with the Manx, it gained popularity with the Cat Fancier Association quicker than the Cymric did. With the Cymric, it was much slower process to get accepted by the CFA because they were seen as a human-made hybrid or a mutant. In fact Cymric’s original name was Longhaired Manx but in the early 1970s it changed to it’s current name.  Although in 1994, the CFA changed this breed’s name back to Longhaired Manx because the breeders felt that the Cymric should be part of the Manx line. The reason is due to the length of hair because there are some cats that have are longhaired and some are shorthaired. Breeding with a Cymric or even with a Manx can be complex because of the defects that can arise.

The Cymric breed is perfect for a family or a family with other pets. They are known to get along with dogs and can even be taught how to do tricks. Cymrics are extremely playful and is loyal to their families. They prefer to spend quality time with their family than be by themselves. One of their known traits is that they are a very powerful and excellent  jumpers.  One thing  that some people may not know is that the Cymric breed is fascinated with water. This doesn’t meant that they enjoy being in water but they like looking at it. This might be because they were found on an island.

The Cymric is a medium-sized cat that has a muscular build. One thing that makes the Cymric stand out is there tail length. There are four classifications regarding to the tail lengths. These four are rumpy (completely tailless), rumpy-riser (short knob), stumpy (a stump that is either kinked or curved), and longy (a tail like an average cat). It has a double coat that is a medium length and soft and silky. It is usually longer around the stomach and the neck ruff.

The Cymric can be prone to some specific genetic disorders. One reasoning behind this is that the gene that gives the Cymric its taillessness can also produce the Manx Syndrome. Which then can cause Spina Bifida where there is a gap in the vertebrae. This is not noticeable soon after birth but can be seen within the first six months.

cat breeds Questions & Answers

Question by PartyCrasher: Are there certain breeds of cat that do not produce dander?
I’m allergic to cats and my roommate is thinking about getting an indoor one. Are there any breeds that I wouldn’t necessarily be allergic to?

Best answer:

Answer by gaffney
You’re allergic to cats, not their fur. Short hair cats produce less dander, and this is because they will have a less “fluffy” coat in the winter, so less shedding. As for it not making you allergic, you should tell your roomate to try something else, like a small dog.

Unfortunately, all cats produce dander, and that is likely what you are allergic to. A company is working to market genetically engineered cats, but they won’t be coming out until 2007, and will likely be expensive. There are some things you can do to limit the affect of living with a cat, but if you are severely allergic, it will likely not do much good. The link below has information on what you can do.
