I cook 4 my dogs (5) all the time — like every day. I make their main meal out of left over veggies and a whole grain. Oats n the winter months, and oats and millet in summer. Rice is also good. All veggies but onions are OK. Onions are supposed to be bad for the red blood cells. I don’t fully understand this, but I have read it a lot in dog/cat magazines. Cut or chop all veggies fine, or grate them in a food processor. I try for 3 different vegetables each day. Cabbage, squash and green beans for instance. I make treats out of whole wheat flour and corn meal. U can add any left over cereals and breads to your “dog stew”. They like carrot bread a lot. I make in it a big cookie sheet with edges on it. Sometimes I add oils like peanut, sunflower of sesame if they need extra fats. We add one can of Mackerel to this big pot of oatmeal each day and feed 5 dogs and 5 cats. I make it at night, then it cools down while we sleep, and I fed in the morning. Seaweeds can be added for extra iron and calcium. U can but Norri seaweed flakes at natural foods stores, or Asian food stores. We live out in the country so we order our seaweeds from a natural food company and it is shipped via UPS.

Trash the Hills Z/D. Hills/Science Diet is an expensive, crappy quality dog food and your vet only recommended it because he/she likely gets kickbacks from the company for pushing it. Vets get very little nutritional training during veterinary school and tend to have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to dog nutrition.

If your dog has food allergies, you should look into a high quality dog food.

Examples of low quality foods to avoid: Anything you can find in a grocery store will be low end, Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Pedigree, Kibbles n’ Bits, Beneful, Ol’Roy.

Examples of high quality foods to look for: Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Canidae All Life Stages, Fromm Four Star, Merrick, GO Natural, Nature’s Variety Prairie, Nature’s Logic, Artemis Fresh Mix, Timberwolf Organics

Some of them have excellent allergy formulas. Natura, a very high end dog food company, puts out a great allergy diet called California Natural. Natural Balance (another better quality dog food company) puts out some good allergy formulas as well.

Another option would be to try a grain-free diet: Innova EVO, Wellness CORE, Blue Wilderness, Nature’s Variety Instinct, Orijen, Horizon Legacy, Merrick Before Grain, Canidae Grain Free All Life Stages, Fromm Surf & Turf, Now!, Sold Gold Barking At The Moon, Ziwipeak, and Taste of the Wild.

As for treats, that depends on what your dog is allergic to. Here’s what I found searching:

PLEASE TAKE YOUR DOG OFF THAT!!!

I have 2 dogs that have allergies and I have been feeding EVO and solid gold barking at the moon and my dog are doing amazing! I would bet that you are paying as much for that food as I am for my 6 star food!

Do you know what your dog has an allergy too?

check out its web site! They are a 3rd party that reviews dog food they are not paid by any of the companies that make food so its a truly honest source!!!
