There are hundreds of thousands of cats in shelters all over this country who need homes. Don’t encourage breeders. They’re just adding to the problem.

The Orientals (Siamese, Burmese, Mau, Bengal) have a reputation for being intelligent. Probably the most expensive is the Ocicat, with Bengals a close second.

But the common domestic mog is probably just as smart — depends how you figure IQ!

  11. Jeff says:

    I believe Egyptian Maus are.

Good thing the people I adopted my cat from didn’t know. :D I have a clever, 400 dollar cat as a pet!

  12. jlsawyer says:

I have a bengal and a siamese. Both are extremely intelligent. Depending on how much you want to spend, bengals can range from a few hundred to over a thousand dollars. Savannah’s and Servals are also very expensive, but larger than the Bengals. My Siamese was a couple hundred.
Just do your research. Find a breed that works well for your lifestyle. Do you have a lot of time to spend with the cat? Do you want a cat that likes a lot of attention, or that is vocal? That all plays a part, too.
